The research led by the Medicine Area is mainly carried out through the August Pi Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS).

The research activities of the Area focus on the following lines of research:

• Clinical research ethics
• Clinical trials, design, methodology and statistical support for clinical research
• Coordination of multinational projects and research networks (SCReN)
• Pharmacovigilance
• Pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics

It also actively participates in the evaluation of the ethical and scientific characteristics of the protocols of clinical trials and research projects that are presented to be used in both the hospital and its area of reference through the Research Ethics Committee (CEIm).

The teaching activities led by the Medicine Area are mainly internal continuing education activities.
