Nosocomial infection
Hand hygiene is the easiest way to prevent nosocomial infections
Current research
Problem
Eight per cent of patients admitted have a nosocomial infection (infection acquired in the hospital) and approximately 20-30% of cases are due to multi-drug resistant organisms. This has direct consequences for the health of patients, prolonging their stay in hospital and can lead to death.
Approach
This group is a multidisciplinary team in which doctors specialising in infectious diseases, microbiology and preventive medicine along with pharmacists cooperate in the study of the causes of nosocomial infections, in order to prevent them or treat them when they appear.
Impact
The research carried out by the group may help to reduce the number of healthcare-associated infections, promote the rational use of antibiotics and reduce the rate of multi-drug resistant organisms.
IDIBAPS looks for talented professionals to meet the needs that appear periodically.
