Polysomnography at the Clinic

Reading time: 1 min

Patients seen at the Clinic Barcelona are referred from primary care, and many of them are instructed to undergo polysomnography to diagnose the origin of their disorder.

Polysomnography is performed in the Sleep Unit, which has eight beds in the hospitalisation departments.

Each room has a single bed, an armchair for an optional companion, a locker and a bathroom with a shower.

The test can also be performed at the patient's home, although in this case only respiratory variables are monitored. If so, the patient is given the equipment and taught how to put it on at night.

After polysomnography has been performed, the patient is scheduled for a visit; then the test results are explained and a diagnosis and treatment are established, if indicated. Follow-up visits are arranged to observe the treatment response.

The Clínic Sleep Unit has a multidisciplinary team of various healthcare and non-healthcare professionals: from specialists in neurology, pulmonology, otorhinolaryngology, maxillofacial surgery and psychiatry to psychologists and technical and nursing staff.
