Type 2 diabetes mellitus, in particular cases only.
Advanced chronic kidney disease (glomerular filtration rate <20 mL/min/1.73 m² or patient on dialysis). A simultaneous kidney and pancreas transplant is performed.
Functional kidney transplant (glomerular filtration rate > 40mL/min/1.73m²). An isolated pancreas transplant is performed.
In addition to meeting any of the above conditions, it is usually important for the patient to be in health status capable of withstanding the surgery and medication for the transplant.
There are many criteria to consider before the decision to perform a pancreas transplant is made. Therefore, the patient must be evaluated by several specialists, who agree on the most appropriate treatment in each case.
Qualities of the ideal recipient for pancreas transplantation
The ideal recipient for pancreas and kidney transplantation should meet the following conditions:

Patient aged below 55 years (or 60 years in some cases).
Patient is not obese (body mass index less than 30).
Patient without ischaemic heart disease not correctable.
Patient without peripheral vascular disease that is severe and not correctable.
