When is chemotherapy necessary?

Reading time: 1 min

Not all cancers are sensitive to chemotherapy treatment. Even the same tumour may need chemotherapy in more advanced stages and not in the earlier stages, as the final objective of chemotherapy can be different: preventive, curative or palliative.

The oncology team will propose a chemotherapy treatment based on the scientific evidence available according to the type of tumour and its extension. In addition, the features of each patient will always be assessed; such as age, weight and the presence of previous lung, heart or kidney diseases. Based on these characteristics, the use of each chemotherapy will be individualised.
