Research lines on Pituitary Gland Tumours

Reading time: 1 min

Pituitary tumours are a field of medical-surgical scientific interest, and there are many lines of research. Firstly, there are surgical lines of research aimed at assessing the outcomes of the surgery by the trans-sphenoidal approach and to assess the complications and impact on the quality of life, as well as the implementation of new techniques and approaches with the use of pioneering technology.

From a medical point of view, there is great interest in the study of the molecular basis and expression of these tumours in order to evaluate the prognosis and also the possible response to drugs. New drugs are also being investigated to control non-resectable or not completely resectable tumours, as well as their secretion in the case of secreting tumours.

Likewise, there are several lines of research for each one of the pituitary secreting tumours in order to determine the cure rates, post-surgical cure predictors, response to drugs at secretion level as well as to tumour growth.
