Treatment of Obesity and Pregnancy at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

The Hospital Clínic is a national reference in the approach to obesity and pregnancy, and the Maternal-Foetal Medicine Service is a collaborator in those cases that require pre- and perinatal advice.

In recent years, the prevalence of pregnant women with a BMI of 25 or over has increased, with the corresponding maternal and foetal complications that this involves. Around 50 patients with morbid obesity are treated at the Hospital Clínic each year; most of them related to diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Assistance is also offered to women who become pregnant after bariatric surgery.

Clínic professionals are dedicated to obesity research in the context of pregnancy, focusing on analysing lifestyle habits that help combat obesity. For example, there are studies on the maternal-foetal response to physical exercise.

The donations that can be done through this webpage are exclusively for the benefit of Hospital Clínic of Barcelona through Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica and not for BBVA Foundation, entity that collaborates with the project of PortalClínic.
