Prognosis of Lymphoma

Some lymphomas are potentially curable, while others are not. In general, aggressive lymphomas (diffuse large cell lymphoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma, Hodgkin’s lymphoma) can be cured, whereas indolent lymphomas (follicular lymphoma, lymphocytic lymphoma, marginal lymphoma) are incurable. In any case, all lymphomas have a corresponding treatment and just because a lymphoma is incurable it does not mean the patient will have a worse prognosis.
It is important to remember that these statistics are only population estimates and each individual case often follows its own course.
Request a second opinion. Request a second opinion in another hospital if you have any doubts about your treatment.
Discuss things with the healthcare professionals. Ask as many questions as you need to in order to resolve any doubts you may have about the disease and its treatment. Record any doubts that come to mind in a notebook so you do not forget them at your next appointment. Always try to attend appointments accompanied by someone else; together, you can help each other understand the information. There are always some unanswered questions – don't worry, you can ask them at the next appointment.
Keep your hopes up. There are several aspects of lymphomas that even the experts cannot predict, such as how you will respond to treatment and how the disease will evolve. You are recommended to ignore the statistics as they do not help predict how each individual case will develop. Therefore, you should learn as much information as possible about your treatment progress and test results during each appointment.
