At present, the most important lines of research focus on slowing the progression of kidney disease and developing new dialysis equipment that offers patients more comfortable, safer sessions through the incorporation of new, remote monitoring technologies (telemedicine).
With regards to renal replacement therapy through a transplant, it is worth highlighting the development of new treatments and strategies that reduce the number of rejections and increase the lifetime of transplanted organs, as well as to encourage all types of organ donation, particularly from living donors.
