What is a Cervical Disc Herniation?

Reading time: 1 min

Cervical disc herniation is currently one of the most common neurosurgical diseases, along with lumbar disc herniation. It usually appears in people between 30 and 50 years-old, and can be due to any type of trauma or injury of the neck.

Not all hernias have to be operated on. One thing is a hernia that causes compression, and another thing is when the disc moves, which is a protrusion. These protrusions do not require surgical intervention. Surgery should always be the last resort for this type of pathology.

A disc herniation is produced in the cervical spine when an intervertebral disc degenerates and deteriorates and the internal nucleus leaks towards a weakened part situated in the area outside the disc.
