Reading time: 1 min

In the early stages of aortic stenosis, symptoms usually only appear with significant exertion. As the disease progresses, the patient may also notice symptoms with minimal exertion.

Symptoms appear because the heart has to work harder to pump blood due to the valve becoming narrower.

The most common symptoms are:

Person holding hands to neck, sweating, pale, unable to breathe, feeling short of breath, choking or breathlessness

Shortness of breath (dyspnoea), especially after exercising

Person holding hand to chest, with chest pain or chest pain

Chest pain (angina pectoris) or pressure upon physical exertion

Dizzy woman
