Teaching - Cardiovascular Surgery Service
The Cardiovascular Surgery Service leads several teaching initiatives for students and professionals.
Undergraduate and postgraduate courses
The Service's professionals teach several classes in the University of Barcelona’s Bachelor’s Degree courses in Medicine, Nursing and Biomedical Engineering. In addition to receiving theoretical classes, the students carry out practical work experience in the Service.
Medical Resident Intern (MIR) Training
The Service also trains medical resident interns (MIR) in the speciality of:

Master’s degree courses
Various professionals from the Service teach classes in several of the University of Barcelona's Master's Degree courses:
- Master’s Degree in Advanced Medical Skills (vascular and cardiac endoluminal treatments, arrhythmias, cardiac imaging and acute cardiac care)
- University Master’s Degree in Cardiovascular Postoperative Care
- Master’s Degree in Advanced Cardiovascular Surgery
The surgeons also give classes to residents in the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS).
The Service has an International Advanced Training Programme in Endovascular Techniques and has participated in the management and organization of the SITE Symposium for over 20 years.
With regard to the speciality of perfusion, the Cardiovascular Surgery Service has a Master's Degree in Perfusion at the University de Barcelona and organizes an Annual Conference on Updates on Evidence-Based Perfusion.
The nursing professionals also organize a Master’s Degree in Cardiovascular Nursing and benchmark continuous training courses. A subspecialist training programme in cardiac insufficiency, cardiovascular risk and atrial fibrillation for nursing started recently.

Finally, the Cardiovascular Surgery Service also organizes training and refresher courses in cardiovascular medicine in collaboration with primary care professionals.
The courses in which professionals from the Service participate include the following:
- Navigating the Maze: techniques and outcomes in Atrial Fibrillation Surgery
