Marianna Spatola
Research group
- Pathogenesis of autoimmune neuronal disorders Junior researcher (R2B)
About me
Dr. Spatola is a neurologist and R2B researcher at IDIBAPS, Hospital Clinic, and PhD director of 3 students at the University of Barcelona, Spain. Her research aims to understand the contribution of antibodies and innate immunity to the pathogenesis of autoimmune encephalitis, and the role of viruses and other pathogens in triggering brain autoimmunity.
Her research has been funded by several governmental and private agencies (currently including the “Junior Leader” by la Caixa Foundation and FIS grant by the Spanish National Health Institute). The outstanding nature of her research has been recognized by several awards (Neurovirology award in 2021, Faculty prize in 2018, Top Science in 2023).
