On Thursday, June 2, 2022, a delegation from the Diabetes Association of Catalonia visited IDIBAPS to learn about the diabetes research carried out by researchers at the Institute.
The Diabetes Association of Catalonia (ADC) is a non-profit organization that connects, helps and defends the more than 600,000 people with diabetes in Catalonia. In addition, it also supports research projects to advance towards finding a cure for the disease.
During the visit, Anna Novials, leader of the IDIBAPS Diabetes Pathogenesis and Prevention group, explained how her team combines clinical and basic research to better understand diabetes and to create innovative methods of treatment and prevention. In the Novials laboratory, located at the Esther Koplowitz Center, visitors had the opportunity to see the cellular models with which the scientists work. In addition, ADC members were also able to visit the facilities at Còrsega 180 street, where researchers have the equipment to analyze how exercise induces metabolic and molecular changes in patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes.
Between March and May 2022, a delegation from the DiabetesCero association and a group of patients with inflammatory bowel disease also visited IDIBAPS.
This is an IDIBAPS UCC+I activity supported by FECYT.
