EBRAINS is a shared European platform of data, atlases, methods and facilities, created to promote brain-related research and to help translate the latest scientific findings into innovation in medicine and industry for the benefit of patients and society.
By joining EBRAINS, IDIBAPS reinforces its contribution to the European research ecosystem. "From IDIBAPS, we bring to this infrastructure the imaging platform and the neurological tissue bank of the Biobank," says Mavi Sánchez-Vives, leader of the IDIBAPS Systems Neuroscience group and liaison between IDIBAPS and EBRAINS. "Thanks to this partnership, we hope to make a qualitative leap in the study and understanding of the brain and the pathologies that affect it, as we are confident that EBRAINS will facilitate research and innovation in neuroscience. In the medium and long term, this will have an impact on the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases".
The CEO of EBRAINS, Pawel Świeboda, welcomes the joining of IDIBAPS, together with other centers in Spain, to the platform. "We are delighted to welcome the new associate members from Spain because these institutions bring new added value to EBRAINS. Moreover, their scientific quality will undoubtedly be essential for the success of our future projects and developments. Finally, we would like to highlight that the Spanish partners represent a whole spectrum of actors, from research institutions to hospital networks to private companies, which enriches the platform".
All academic researchers have open access to the wide range of brain datasets, the multilevel brain atlas, modelling and simulation tools, high-performance computing resources, and state-of-the-art robotics and neuromorphic platforms of EBRAIN. Industry researchers can also use the platform under specific agreements.
