  • Targeted surgical treatment and quality of life improvement in gynecologic cancers

    Directed by: Berta Díaz Feijoo

This research line focuses on advancing gynecologic cancer treatment through innovative surgical techniques and personalized approaches. It explores the impact of multimodal prehabilitation on surgical outcomes, sentinel node strategies, and the role of lymphadenectomy in cancer staging. The projects also emphasize the integration of quality of life measures and the development of targeted therapies, including intraoperative interventions to improve patient prognosis and long-term well-being.

  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and prevention

    Directed by: Marta del Pino

To understand the natural history of HPV infection will allow us to improve both prevention strategies and related lesions management. HPV is the causal agent of several anogenital neoplasias. The elimination of HPV-related cancers, is one of the objectives of the European Cancer Beating Plan. Characterizing the HPV infections at risk of progression as well as the high-risk groups of patients, who would benefit on primary or secondary prevention tools, will be mandatory to reach that goal.

  • Etiopathogenesis in endometriosis and adenomyosis

Directed by: Maria Angels Martínez Zamora

To evaluate new insights in the knowledge of the origin and recurrence of endometriosis and adenomyosis with special focus on inflammation, coagulation, and fibrinolysis. To analyze the effect of different hormonal treatments on molecular markers and imaging of both diseases.

  • Optimization of the surgical, medical management and follow up of diseases of the reproductive apparatus

To analyze the role of the surgical variables allowing improvement of the results and reduction of the morbidity in the surgical treatment of benign and malignant gynaecological disorders.

  • Preservation and improvement of fertility

To evaluate cryopreservation of ovarian tissue and to improve the autotransplantation technique in infertile patients. To improve reproductive outcomes in obese patients and poor responders. To assess the safety of assisted reproductive techniques in the long term.

  • Reproductive failure markers

To find new markers of hemostasis alterations in early and advanced pregnancy in patients with or without antiphospholipid syndrome and in endometriosis patients. To assess the usefulness of immunohistochemical and proteomic parameters in the human endometrium as markers of endometrial receptiveness.

  • Robotic surgery and uterine transplantation

To improve and evaluate the current indications for robotic surgery in benign and malignant gynecological diseases, and to overcome the difficulties associated with the uterine transplantation surgical technique and surveillance.
